I received a letter in the mail today which I can only assume was in response to My Letter to the President. Something that you must read first for this post to really have any meaning for you.
The letter came back with a picture card of President Obama, thanking me for my ongoing support.
The photo isn’t much different from what I received from President Clinton, and neither is the letter.
The letter implies that it is a specific response to what I had written a few months ago by beginning in this way:
“Dear Kacey,
Each night, I get the chance to read about 10 letters from people across the country. Some are inspiring. Some are heartbreaking. But each one compels me to keep moving forward on this journey we started together. . .” ~Barack Obama
The letter is just once again generic, and at the end they only want my money. Nothing else in the three page letter even so much as indicates that the letter I sent was even read.
Instead the letter goes into the same worn out story we have heard time and time again. About how Republicans are ruining everything and how jobs are important.
Look here Mr. President, it is about so much more than jobs. It is about opportunity. It is about freedom. It is about peace, happiness, generosity and changing the way our corrupt system works.
If you noticed in my letter I specifically requested that he find the courage to stand up and refuse to use campaign funds, to take action and not create slogans, yet the response letter includes a donation form and a return envelope to send money to the Democratic National Committee to fight the Republicans.
Those evil bastards. All of them, thinking that they can just swoon me with recycling logos and use the power of suggestion by implying that I am a democrat and that I have offered my continuing support.
The real question though becomes, what to do with this self-addressed envelope which has guaranteed postage?

You may or may not have heard of a funny little trick called keep Wall Street Occupied. If you haven’t you should check out how to do this, this short video explains everything.
I have sent back every piece of junk mail stuffed with OWS rantings since this movement began, but writing “get the money out of politics” on the comment card just does not seem like it will be enough. I am open to thoughts, suggestions, ideas and more.
The blatant audacity of them even asking to send money just deserves a legendary response.
In my head taking the money out of politics is key to fixing our broken and corrupt system. I mention that in another old post, which if I am being truthful, is an idea which should be built upon and altered as it certainly has flaws. It too is open for suggestion.
What do you think is the one key to transforming the system? What one change could we make that would alter the way everything else functions? Do you agree that taking the money out of the picture is the answer or do you think something else will be more effective?
Thanks for stopping by the Middle Brick Road, I hope you enjoyed this post. My name is Kacey and I am really big on health and all things natural – freedom – politics and bringing change by abandoning the boxes we too often put ourselves in.
If you’re new here, please take a look around, follow along and like me on Facebook, so you never miss a beat. =)) Until next time . . .
I am not American, actually I am Scottish living in the Middle East, but I do agree with you whole-heartedly, however I fear that if they took the money out of politics, there would be no one in politics, which in itself, of course, might be the answer! Through extended communicatins, everyone now has the ability to have their say – but the problem is they are not being encouraged to hear the truth of what is really happening in their country, since it is the politicians that are running it and deciding on what children here in school, what teachers teach.
Individuals are being drawn into the money game by borrowing to buy things they may want, but might not need. They are encouraged from millions spent on advertising to buy this that and the other – and guess what – (Quoting Peter Selby in his great book Grace and Mortgage, page 106, the Language of Faith and the Debt of the World) “In many sectors the most significant profit to be made by maufacturing something is generated by lending the money to someone to buy it”.
If the Wall Street movement has a goal it should be – ‘Save to Buy – Don’t give Banks your Life’. By saving to buy, the lending will diminish and the hardship on people who are paying back too much interest will also stop because they are not borrowing to buy. That is the only way to stop the banks from reaping the huge profits they are making. Maybe then investment will go back to manufacturing, which will in turn bring jobs back, needed housing, money for healthcare etc.
SAVE TO BUY – A Blog worth reading, I will write mine now!
Thank you, it is not going to be easy, but then neither is paying back credit cars when you end up paying a lot more for a proudct and someone else benefts.
I couldn’t agree with both of you more, on all accounts. I’ve been saying this for a while now, about being conscious about what is bought and using individual buying power to make an impact. I too feel this is a solid answer to our problems, however it requires changing the minds and behavior of the individual. Versus a collective change that would effect everyone at once.
Sadly, this particular method must be a slow process. People are far too addicted to instant gratification. Saving towards a goal is something that has to be re-learned by American society. Groups of people will have to teach children that this must be the way and so on. You both may like my page “What Can You Do?” above which has lots of great info for making your own impact.
How could we change the minds of people quickly, getting them to see the err instant gratification brings?
I’m honestly done (at least where I live now) working on anything Occupy related. The movement in this area lacks cohesiveness and strategy. Not to mention the bad attention coming from the media (which is another problem all its own)
But speaking of strategies, I’m interested in hearing them. People seem to already know in their heads what they should be doing. It’s like I know I shouldn’t eat this chocolate bar because it negates the effects of all the hard work I’ve put in the gym all week, but it tastes so good right now I forget about my long term goals. This logic is easily applied to the instant gratification made available by credit.
Funny that the loan places got mentioned, they are a much hated service in my town. But people know and they keep coming back for more. How (other than writing for the world to see) can we instill the desire for people to do business with only businesses who support what we believe in? Whatever that may be. If we’re supporting businesses that treat workers badly or buy products from companies who pollute the environment or lobby against the quickly disappearing middle class, we support them. In a couple days (and to be honest I’ve kind of started already) I am avoiding these places all together. From Facebook to the Radio . . .
